Roger Lane, age 76, of Iron City, GA passed away Saturday evening, November 16, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Lane will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Iron City Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Johns, Dr. Johnny Roberts, and Rev. David Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Travis Pickle, Tracy Pickle, Trent Pickle, Spencer Wells, Patrick Wells, and Hilton Lane serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the Seminole County Board of Commissioners as well as members of the ACCG. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, Nov. 18, 2019 at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seminole County Warpath on Cancer 200 W. 10th St. Donalsonville, GA 39845. Mr. Lane was born in Donalsonville, GA on Nov. 8, 1943 to Bennie Hilton and Ruth Williams Lane. He served his country in the United States Army in Korea and the Panama Canal Zone and received an Associates Degree in accounting. Mr. Lane retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked as a caustic operator. He became County Commissioner District 4 for Seminole County Jan. 1, 2011 and was reelected and began his second term on Jan. 1, 2015. Mr. Lane resigned his position on April 19, 2017 due to health reasons. During his time as County Commissioner, he served as Vice Chairman for one year and Chairman for 3 years. He was appointed to the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Board of Managers in 2015 and served throughout the remainder of his term. Mr. Lane was a member of Iron City Baptist Church, the American Legion Post of Donalsonville and the VFW Post of Colquitt. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and was known for being a great storyteller. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Nell Lane; his children, Timothy Wells (Elizabeth), Dawn Kelley (Tony), and Bryan Wells; his grandchildren, Erika Kennedy, Jessica Griffin (Bobby), LeAndra Culverson (Cole), Caitlin Summer (Nathan), Peyton Wells, Griffin Wells, Spencer Wells, and Patrick Wells; his great grandchildren, Grady Kennedy, Leo Summer, and Amelia Summer; and his siblings, Larry Lane, Brenda Cowart (Wayne), Stanley Lane, and Theresa Alexander (Mark). Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. lane was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Hilton and Ruth Williams Lane; two sisters, Joy Dancer and Tonya Lane; and a brother, Hilton Lane.
