TERRY LYNN TURNER SCOTT

June 18, 1955 — March 1, 2025

JAKIN

Mrs. Terry Lynn Scott (Turner) entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the home that she shared with her husband of almost fifty years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister.

The family will receive friends from 10-noon on Saturday, March 8, at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. A private graveside ceremony will take place for family and close friends. Terry’s sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Terry was born June 18, 1955, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL into a loving, military family to parents Daniel Odis and Lee Turner, and older sister Debbie. Her childhood years were spent shared at Air Force Bases with her family in Alabama, France, Texas, Florida and Louisiana before finally settling in Jakin, Georgia near her father’s family. She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1973 and then completed a B.S. degree in Mathematics with a Minor in English from Georgia Southwestern University after completing a four-year Bachelor’s degree in two years. It was during her college years that she met local farmer and Jakin native, Rushy Scott, and they married 3 months later. She made Jakin her home and the place she raised her own family until the day of her eternal homecoming. On June 6th of 2025, they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage. As Rushy says, “She was the perfect wife, mother, and my best and true friend.”

She was an excellent teacher with a brilliant mind for math. She finished her teaching career at Southwest Georgia Academy in 1998 where her three sons and several grandchildren have attended. After teaching, she assisted her husband and constant partner, Rushy, with many business affairs over the following years.

She will be remembered for her famous southern cooking, her pot full of pennies collected over a lifetime of marriage, her silly sense of humor, her love of being by the ocean, her brilliant mind and her intense love for her family.

She eagerly looked toward Heaven and the promises it brings proclaiming even in her final days of her belief of Jesus as her Savior. She raised her children in the church and was thankful that they all are walking in the faith and sharing it with their own children.

She was preceded in death by her father whom she adored, Odis Turner, and a beloved brother-in-law, Stanley Dupriest; while leaving to cherish her memories: her husband, Rushy; sons, Adam (Laura) of Appling, GA, Daniel (Nancy) of Evans, GA, Stephen (Brittany) of Donalsonville; mother, Lee Turner; and sister, Debbie Horn (Bruce); along with eight grandsons and three granddaughters: Eli, Ben, Andrew, Luke, Reed, Wyatt, Asher, Hudson, Joshua, Eva, Vera Anne; as well as her dear sisters-in-law, Joyce Dupriest and Susie Young (David); with many loving nieces and nephews.
