Talmadge Dewitt “Sam” Brookins, age 85, of Monroe, GA and formerly of Donalsonville, passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 25, 2018 in Monroe. Funeral services for Mr. Brookins will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Oakview Church of God with Rev. Mylan Brookins, Rev. Gary Walker, and Rev. James Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Matthew Brookins, Damon Trawick, Jeffrey Trawick, Reggie Trawick, Austin Trawick, and Jeremy Trawick serving as active casketbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, December 28, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakview Church of God. The family will be gathering at the home of Norma Trawick in Iron City, GA. Mr. Brookins was born in Henry County, AL on May 24, 1933 to Ranzy Brookins and Grace Knight Brookins. He worked for 38 years with the paper mill industry and was a shipping clerk upon retirement from Georgia Pacific. He was of the Church of God faith. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Rev. Mylan and Debbie Brookins of Monroe, GA and Anthony Brookins and Sherry of Murphy, NC; his sisters, Norma Trawick and Gwen Joiner of Iron City, GA; the mother of his children, Claudette H. Brookins of Hiawassee, GA; as well as his grandchildren, Amanda Pumphrey, Allison Brookins, Leighton Brookins, Matthew Brookins, and Kristin Worsley. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brookins was preceded in death by his parents, Ranzy and Grace Knight Brookins; his brothers, Herman Brookins, Reuben Brookins, L.B. Brookins, and Hiram Brookins; and his sisters, Wynell Holt and Zytell Bush. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
