SARA FRANCES MANN ROBINSON

IRON CITY

Sara Frances Mann Robinson, age 97, of Iron City, GA, passed away Thursday evening, May 30, 2024, at Cotton Grove Estates in Jesup, GA.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Robinson will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the service at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Ronnie Ingram, Wes Dozier, Alan Ingram, Thomas Dilmore, Lanny Williams, and John Gray serving as active pallbearers.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Cotton Grove Estates 249 Joe Naia Road Jesup, GA 31545.

 

A native of Miami, FL, she was born February 11, 1927, the daughter of Leslie H. Mann and Sara Frances Ayers Mann.  She was an active member of Iron City Baptist Church since 1946, serving as a Sunday School teacher, as well as Training Union Director.

 

Attending Iron City Elementary School, she graduated from Miller County High School in 1943, prior to graduating from Atlanta Opportunity Business School.  During World War II, she was a welder at a shipyard. After working as city clerk, she was the first woman to be elected to serve on the Iron City City Council.  In 1997, she retired as postmaster at the Iron City Post Office.  Upon retirement, she became a published author by writing the book “What Difference Does It Make”.  In 1998, after retiring as postmaster, she was elected again to serve on the Iron City City Council and was mayor pro tem.

 

In other community affairs, she was a member of the executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America, served as Cub Scout Den mother, and was President of the Iron City School PTA.  For five years she was a member of the Seminole County Board of Registrars and served on the E-911 Committee.  Mrs. Robinson was manager of Seminole County District 4 elections for a number of years.   In 1999, she received a certificate from Georgia Academy for Economic Development at Darton College.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Sara Jane Hardy of Iron City, GA and Betty Lou Teston and Billy of Jesup, GA; her son, Les Robinson of Jesup, GA; and her brother, Bill Mann and Maxine of Chipley, FL.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Scott Teston and Samesa of Jesup, GA and Shanna Shingler and Martin of Jesup, GA.   Clara Robinson of Iron City, GA and Rebecca Robinson of Donalsonville, GA are her granddaughters-in-law. Great grandchildren surviving are Colby Shingler and Erinn, Sara Beth Woodcock and Justin, and Scotty Teston and Megan all of Jesup, GA, and Jordan Jones and Chris of Baxley, GA, Austin Robinson and Brittney Robinson both of Iron City, GA, and Allison Robinson and Mollie Robinson both of Donalsonville, GA; as well as two great -great granddaughters, Jaylen Tomberlin and McKinley Teston of Jesup, GA and a great -great grandson, Tripp Teston of Jesup, GA.  Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive. 

 

Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie H. Mann and Sara Frances Ayers Mann; her husband of 47 years, William L. Robinson; three sisters, Annie Ruth Mann Hardeman, infant Betty Lou Mann, and Jannie Mann Graham; grandsons, Lance Robinson and Chad Robinson; daughter-in-law, Cindy Robinson; son-in-law, Jimmy Hardy; and great-great granddaughter, Ellieanna Rose Shingler.
