Ruby Whittaker McDonald, age 93, of Donalsonville, GA, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2024, at Bainbridge Health and Rehab.
Funeral services for Mrs. McDonald will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Matthews officiating. The services will conclude in the chapel, however, interment will be at Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, Nov. 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
She was born Ruby Branch on September 24, 1931, in Decatur County, GA, to George and Lula Tipton Branch and later attended Decatur Co. schools. She married Pasco Whittaker in 1947 and they made their home in Seminole Co. where they were engaged in farming. After his death, she married Grady McDonald and they managed Desser Cash Store until their retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with Grady to his ship’s reunions, fishing, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by two sons, George Whittaker (Deborah) of Donalsonville and Mark Whittaker (Denean) of Thomasville; and one daughter, Lanette Griffin (Burt) of Cashiers, NC. Also surviving are stepdaughter Faye Brown of Cusseta and stepson David McDonald (Denean) of Hohenwald, TN; sisters-in-law, Sophie Earnest of Donalsonville and Kate Mitchell of Jakin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lula Tipton Branch; her husbands, Pasco Whittaker and Grady McDonald; daughter, Linda Wilson and son-in-law Ken; stepson Henry McDonald; and stepson-in-law, Wesley Brown. Mrs. McDonald was also predeceased by two brothers, T.O. and Troy Branch; five sisters, Juanita McClendon, Evelyn Nix, Myrtice Cowart, Wannie Burdett, and Margaret Lorenz.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the management and staff of Willow Ridge Personal Care Home, Bainbridge Health and Rehab, and Georgia Hospice Care for the loving care they provided Ruby during her final years.
