Patsy Middleton Mathis, age 75, of Iron City, GA passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Mathis will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. George Masciarelli and Rev. Richard Trawick officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Tim Middleton, Todd Middleton, Rod Middleton, Keith Mathis, Ray Mathis, and Michael Lovering serving as active casketbearers. Members of the SCHS Class of 1962 will serve as honorary casketbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iron City Methodist Church c/o Alan Ingram 155 O’Neal Street Iron City, GA 39859. Mrs. Mathis was born in Iron City, GA on December 3, 1943 to Eager and Mary Ingram Middleton. She was an honor graduate of the SCHS Class of 1962, having played on the State Championship Squaws Basketball team. Mrs. Mathis was an active member of Iron City Methodist Church where she served as the church treasurer. She was also actively involved in the Iron City Ladies Club for many years of which she was a founding member, as well as the Donalsonville Woman’s Club and the Book Club. Mrs. Mathis was a founding member of the Iron City School Reunion. She worked as a teller at Commercial State Bank in Donalsonville before her retirement. She was an amazing wife of 55 years, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and would do anything for them. Mrs. Mathis found great pleasure in providing the best tasting meals for her family and friends. She loved to work in her yards and her green thumb showed in the plants she grew. Traveling, creating photo albums, and fishing were among the numerous activities she enjoyed. One of her greatest pleasures came from providing service to her community and neighbors. Mrs. Mathis leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Buddy Mathis of Iron City, GA; her sons, Stanley Mathis and Stephanie of Valdosta, GA and Andy Mathis and Nicki of Iron City, GA; her brother, Cosby Middleton of Opelika, AL; and her grandchildren, Dorsey, Davis and Meg Mathis. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eager and Mary Ingram Middleton; her brother, Gene Middleton; and her nephew, Chucky Middleton.
