Melvin "Rusty" Bennett

Melvin Rusty Bennett, age 95, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday morning, September 14, 2024, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services for Mr. Bennett will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Memorial Gardens with Rev. James Scarborough offiiciating with grandson Chad Bennett, grandson Joshua Heneisen, great grandson Dakota Lawson, great grandson Montana Lawson, great grandson Landon Lawson, and great grandson Brendon Gillis serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 AM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to The Stewards of Lake Seminole 8121 Clearwater Drive Donalsonville, GA 39845.

Mr. Bennett was born in Carlyle, Illinois in 1929 to Daniel and Edna Nolte Bennett. He married Mary Louise Morefield, to whom he was married 70 years before her passing. They moved to Seminole County in the Fall of 1990 to enjoy retired life fishing on Lake Seminole. Mr. Bennett loved the outdoors in what he called “God’s Country”. He loved being in his yard on the mower everyday and loved his family more than anything. Mr. Bennett was the last survivor of six siblings.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Rita Bennett-Daugherty and her husband James; his daughter-in-law, Janet Bennett; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Edna Nolte Bennett; his wife of 70 years, Mary Louise Morefield Bennett; his siblings, Lester Bennett, Delbert Bennett, Alson Bennett, Vivian Wiggins, Opal Johnson, and Fanchion Drew; and his son, Roger Bennett.
