JAMES EDWARD BARBER

February 6, 1930 — July 11, 2020

James Edward Barber, age 90, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2020 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Barber will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Stacy Bush, Geary Bush, and Derek Wilson officiating. Interment will be held at Friendship Memorial Gardens with full military honors being given. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church. Mr. Barber was born in Donalsonville, GA on Feb. 6, 1930 to George W. and Linnie Sirmons Barber. He graduated from Seminole County High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years and 22 days before retiring. He was also in the active National Guard for 7 months and 44 days. During his time in the military, Mr. Barber spent several years overseas, which included 1 year and 6 months in England and Germany during the Korean War, 3 years 5 months and 6 days in France, and 1 year and 6 days at Mactan Air Force Base in the Philippines. He owned and operated an upholstery shop in Donalsonville for 26 years and for 35 years he spent a great deal of his time volunteering with the youth football and baseball programs. He could always be found umpiring baseball games. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Keith Barber of Texas, Kevin Barber of Stockbridge, GA, Lynne Wilson and husband Larry of Atlanta, GA, and Becky Bush and husband Tim of Donalsonville, GA; his special friend, Eddie Thornton of Donalsonville, GA; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Linnie Sirmons Barber and his wife, Annie Jo Simpson Barber. Arrangements entrusted to Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
