Mr. J.H. Hunter, age 78, of Iron City, GA passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the home of his son, Tommy, in Donalsonville, GA. Funeral services for Mr. Hunter will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Gable officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Steven Frith, Roger Trawick, Randall Amerison, Bruce Covington, Kent Mathis, and Tim Ray serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be John D. Miller, John Emory Trawick, Ronny Shingler, Lanny Williams, Ronnie Williams, and Jimmy Hardy. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Hunter was born in Iron City, GA on Nov. 2, 1940 to James Henry Hunter and Lillie Askew Hunter. He was involved in trucking, owning his own trucking company for many years before his retirement. He was “Grandpa” to everyone, in fact “Grandpa” was his CB handle. Mr. Hunter loved to fish and could fix any and everything. He was of the Baptist Faith. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Janice Strawser of Iron City, GA; his son, Tommy Hunter and wife Sandy of Donalsonville, GA; his grandsons, Vic Hunter and wife Kati of Iron City, GA and Colby Hunter of Donalsonville, GA; his granddaughter, Leslie Strawser of Iron City, GA; and his great granddaughters, Ella and Eden Hunter of Iron City, GA. Mr. Hunter is also survived by his brother, Ray Hunter and wife Brenda of Iron City, GA and his sister, Hazel Godwin of Iron City, GA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Lillie Askew Hunter; his wife, Pat Hunter; two brothers, William Hunter and C.E. “Buddy” Hunter; and a sister, Geneva Smith.
