Iris June Jones Horton, age 82, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. Funeral services for Mrs. Horton will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery with Willard Mims, Greg Mims, Clint Mims, J.R. McMillan, Ronnie Miller, and Chris Thomas serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, March 17, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mrs. Horton was born in Rocky Mount, NC on July 23, 1937 to Bender Jones and Mary Louise Morgan Jones. She was a waitress and of the Missionary Baptist Faith. Mrs. Horton was a country music singer, having been the youngest member of the traveling Grand Ole Opry at the age of 13. She performed under the stage name of Honey Jones and had performed with artist such as Minnie Pearl and Slim Whitman. The last group she was a part of was Betty Martin and the Road Runners. Her favorite artist was Loretta Lynn. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Gilbert Horton of Donalsonville, GA; her daughter, Roxanne Lonski (Paul) of New London, NC; her son, Gilbert Horton, Jr. of Donalsonville, GA; her sister, Anita Buchanan of Portsmouth, VA; and her grandchildren, Destiny Elizabeth Horton and Danielle Isabel Horton. Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her parents, Bender and Mary Louise Morgan Jones; her sister, Jennifer Parker; and her brothers, Freddie Jones and Micky Jones.
