Herman McCalvin

Mr. Herman McCalvin, age 92, of Colquitt, GA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 28, 2024, at his residence.

 Funeral services for Mr. McCalvin will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Donalsonville Church of God with Rev. Larry Daughtry, Eric Lovering, and Dallas Waddell officiating. Interment will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Eric Lovering, Randy Bryan, Steven Williams, Steven Frith, David Frith, and Charles Chandler, serving as active pallbearers. Bainbridge Trail Blazers will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 4:00 PM at Donalsonville Church of God.

 Mr. McCalvin was born in Miller County on February 14, 1932, the youngest son of John Thomas and Leola Long McCalvin. He served his country in the US Army from 1953-1955, and retired from Bainbridge Mills in 1993. His passion was centered around horses. He loved to raise, train, and ride. You would often find him talking about horses to anyone who would listen, especially about his horse named “Whiskey”, his best pal. He was the last remaining charter member of Donalsonville Church of God, where he served his Savior for most of his life.

 He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 68 years, Sara Pickren McCalvin; his daughter, Liz Lovering; his son, Tommy McCalvin; and grandson, Eric Lovering, all of Colquitt, GA; as well as his granddaughter, Anna Grace McCalvin of Statesville, NC. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Dorothy Givens of Donalsonville, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

 Mr. McCalvin was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Leola Long McCalvin; his oldest son, Sammy McCalvin; one brother, John Roy McCalvin; and five sisters, Fannie Mae Evans, Eunice Williams, Myrtle Chandler, Irene Chandler, and Lillian Smith.
