Bobbie Jeanette Welch passed away on March 22, 2021 at The Oaks – Athens in Athens, Georgia. She was born on December 19, 1934 in Gastonia, North Carolina to David Glenn Kennedy and Blanche Rowland Kennedy. After the passing of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother, Mattie Kennedy, in Sybil Grove, Alabama. She married Carlton Key of Donalsonville, Georgia on December 5, 1949. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by her half-sister, Paulette Kennedy; her son, Johnny Wayne Key; and her husbands, Carlton Key, Thomas Welch, and Daniel Whittaker. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Diane Key Smith; her grandchildren, Angela Humphrey (Neil Humphrey), Carla Weeks (Carl Weeks), Carrie Key, Starlynn Gibson, and Carlton Wayne Key; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Those who knew Jeanette loved her vivacious personality, infectious laugh, and zest for life. She never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone and everyone. She enjoyed baking cakes, gardening, shopping, dancing, and her red Impala Sport. Her favorite song to fast dance to (her words) was “Wipe Out”. Even when she could barely move in the end, she was able to do a slight shimmy with her shoulders when she heard her favorite tune. She also loved the Lord and honored him by studying her Bible, watching church services on TV, and listening to gospel music. Her last request was for someone to put her (always bright) pink lipstick on her. She wanted to look her best when she met Jesus. The family of Bobbie Jeanette Welch would like to extend our sincere thanks to The Oaks – Athens and Pruitt Hospice. Please join us in celebrating her life on May 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, Georgia. Reverend Herman Enfinger will be officiating.
