We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Newton Edwin "Jabo" King, age 78, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Dec. 23, 2006 at Long Term Hospital of Dothan. Funeral services for Mr. King will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville with Dr. Ron King, Dr. Ron McCaskill and Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. He had lived in Donalsonville for the past 70 years. He worked as a retail merchant for 40 plus years, having owned and operated The Surprise Store. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Whit Aiken Sunday School Class and served as a deacon. Mr. King was past president of the Donalsonville Lions Club and the Retail Merchants Association. He had served as chairman of the board of the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving on the Developement and Planning Commission and the Library Board. He was a past Commodore of the Boat Club and a past Seminole County Citizen of the Year. Mr. King was also a member of the Board of Directors of Ameris Bank. Mr. King leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary Helen King of Donalsonville; a son, Ed King and his wife Ellen of Brinson, GA; a daughter, Kathy Corbett and her husband Ron of Valdosta, GA; four grandchildren, Marcus and Russell King and Scott and Jake Corbett; three great grandchildren, Danny, Walker, and Brayden Corbett; and a nephew, Ron King and his wife Judy of Columbus, GA. Active pallbearers will be Bill Burke, Ronnie Burke, Brad Clarke, Wade Spooner, Johnny McMullen, Joe Hall, Robin Blackburn, and Larry Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Whit Aiken Sunday School Class and the deacons of First Baptist Church.
