We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Bessie Mae Baker, age 86, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with interment to follow in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City, GA with Chip Oakley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Baker was born in Donalsonville, GA on January 22, 1924 to the late George Washington Turner and Mary Lee Turner. She had attended Corinth Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker and worked on the farm. Bessie will always be remembered as a person who found a way to laugh or smile no matter what the circumstances might be. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Pat Ferguson of Columbia, AL; a son, Bernard Dawson of Columbia, AL; a brother, J.P. Turner of Daleville, AL; three grandchildren, Kathy Oakley of Dothan, AL, Kenneth Wessinger of Ashford, AL, and Maurice Wessinger of Dothan, AL; and 8 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and “adopted” family members also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Turner and Mary Lee Turner; her husband, Junior Baker; a son, Hewey Dawson; a granddaughter, Ellen Varnum; and a brother, Howard Turner. Active casketbearers will be Maurice Wessinger, Kenneth Wessinger, J.W. Turner, Chip Oakley, Ronnie Varnum, and Dr. Charles O. Walker. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
