We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Harlan Ard, age 84, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Reynolds Chapel United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Donna Sue Roberts officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 PM at Tallahassee Memory Gardens in Tallahassee, FL with full military honors. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 21, 2010, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Ard was born in Geneva, AL on November 25, 1925 to the late Walter and Erie Collins Ard. He graduated from Geneva High School and then went on to further his education at the University of Alabama, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. Mr. Ard continued on to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a navigator. He retired from the Air Force in November of 1985 as a Major, having flown during WWII as a navigator. Mr. Ard had been invited to be a part of the National WWII Honor Flight to Washington, DC scheduled for later this year. He was also a retired educator and a retired auditor with the State of Florida Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Ard was an active member of the Donalsonville Lions Club, the American Legion Post #157, the Salem Lodge #267 in Desser, the 5th District Master of Warden’s Association, and the Reynolds Chapel Men’s Club. He was also a former member of the Masonic Shrine Temple in Tallahassee, FL. Mr. Ard had been an active member of Reynolds Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid baseball card collector. For the past 10 years, he had enjoyed feeding the fish off of his dock at Lake Seminole. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elaine Ard of Donalsonville, GA; three daughters, Susan Hall and her husband Eric of Bay Minette, AL, Terri Ard of Havana, FL, and Kellie Caswell and her husband Lee of Tallahassee, FL; and three sons Harlan Ard, Jr. of Chattahoochee, FL, Dan Ard and his wife Darlynn of Havana, FL, Kenneth Tucker and his wife Bethany of Tampa, FL. Twelve grandchildren and a granddaughter on the way; numerous great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Erie Collins Ard; one son, Walter Keith Ard; one sister, Betty Padget; and one brother, Watha Ard. Members of the United States Air Force Honor Guard will serve as casketbearers. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
