JAMES WALTER ALIGOOD

We regret to announce the passing of Mr. James Walter Aligood, age 88, of Iron City, GA who passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville, GA Funeral services for Mr. Aligood will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Iron City Baptist Church in Iron City, GA with Rev. Bob Aligood and Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Interment will be held at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Iron City, GA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at Iron City Baptist Church in Iron City, GA. Mr. Aligood was born in Seminole County, GA on June 20, 1921 to the late Josephus C. and Lilla Ard Aligood. He was a member of Iron City Baptist Church, served his Country in the US Air Force during World War II; was a rural mail carrier for 39 years. He was District, State and National Member of Rural Letter Carries Association and also served as mayor of Iron City for 13 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years Dorothy Aligood of Iron City, GA; two sons, Roger Aligood of Iron City, GA and Doug Aligood and his wife Dale of Kissimmee, FL; daughter-in-law Denise Aligood of St. Marys, GA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis (Brian), Meredith Barber, Brian Aligood (Ashley), Lacey Aligood, Caleb Aligood and Kyle Aligood and five great grandchildren, Jake Lewis, Josh Lewis, Maci Barber, Madelyn Barber and Tate Barber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephus C. and Lilla Ard Aligood; son, Joe Aligood; sister, Ada Aligood Fisher; and brother, Charles Aligood. Active casketbearers will be Kyle Aligood, Caleb Aligood, Brian Aligood, Billy Ward, Dale Murray and James Ard. Honorary casketbearers will be Rev. and Mrs. Harold Crosson, Rev. and Mrs. John Cunningham, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McIntosh, and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Palmer.
