We regret to announce the passing of Patricia Hornsby Wurst, age 72, of Donalsonville, GA who left us December 7th, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services for Pat Wurst will be held on December 10th, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA, with Rev. Kirk Loyless performing the service. A eulogy will be given by Wade Hornsby, Mrs. Wurst's nephew. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on the evening of December 9th,2009. Pat Wurst was born in Donalsonville, GA on February 18, 1938, to Nell Ruth Howard Hornsby and the late Eldridge E. Hornsby. She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1956 and then continued her education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Mrs. Wurst returned to Donalsonville to work at Commercial State Bank. She also worked as an insurance agent with Independent Life for 25 years. Mrs. Wurst managed a local chain hotel for 10 years, as well as working part-time at the Donalsonville Hospital for 2 years. She was also involved in many civic organizations and functions. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for over 10 years while her children were involved in Scouts. Mrs. Wurst was a former member of the Donalsonville Junior Womans Club and the Womans Club, as well as having been elected a Trustee of the Bainbridge Junior College Foundation. She was a member of the original fund raisers for the Lions Hall Civic Center and graciously opened her home to the Tour of Homes to raise money to build the Seminole County Library. She also participated in fundraising activities for the Seminole County Marching Band. Mrs. Wurst had served as chairman of the annual Cancer Society drive and was recognized as Homemaker of the Month by the University of Georgia Extension Services. Pat and her family were awarded the Family of the Month and Yard of the Month honors. She was also a past President and member of the Woman's Society of Christian Services, a member of the United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday School Teacher for over 20 years at the Friendship United Methodist Church. Pat leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Dallas Foster Wurst, Jr. of Donalsonville, GA; her mother, Nell Hornsby of Donalsonville, GA; three sons, Dallas F. Wurst,III and his wife Dolly of Peachtree City, GA, Patrick E. Wurst and his wife Lisa of Albany, GA, and Johnathan H. Wurst and his friend Alex Ferrer of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Dallas F. Wurst, IV and McKinnon Elaina Wurst; and three step-grandsons, Justin, Jason, and Aaron Gilbert. She is also survived by a brother, Kenneth L. "Butch" Hornsby and his wife Priscilla of Donalsonville, GA; two sisters, June Gurr and her husband Billy of Albany, GA and Amy Studdard and her husband Jerry of Thomasville, GA; a sister-in-law, Gloria Priest of Tallahassee, FL; and three aunts, Lucille Hornsby of Iron City, GA, Lucille Howard of Wilmington, NC, and Dell Schroeder of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Andrew Priest, Stephen Priest, Tracy Johnston and her husband Zack, Kelly Hornsby and his wife Anita, Holly Whitehead, Wade Hornsby and his wife Mickie, Don Gurr and his wife Melinda, Neal Gurr and his wife Pam, Jerry Studdard, and Michael and Denise Studdard. Special family friends who also survive are Jay Funderburke and Clarice Hollman. Active casketbearers will be Andrew Priest, Stephen Priest, Don Gurr, Neal Gurr, Kelly Hornsby, Wade Hornsby, Jerry Studdard, and Michael Studdard. She was preceded in death by her father, Eldridge E. Hornsby.
