We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Sybil Burke Geeslin Kennedy, age 88, of Largo, FL formerly of Donalsonville, GA, who passed away Saturday, November 21 2009 in Largo, FL. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Donalsonville, GA on August 5, 1921 to the late William and Susie Brown Burke. She moved to Atlanta where she married R. G. Geeslin. She became one of the very first female real estate agents in Atlanta, and later became an inventor, having created the first form fitting snap diapers. She later became an assistant buyer at Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, and then head gift buyer at May Cohen’s in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs Kennedy married Lee Kennedy in 1965 and moved to Largo, FL where she established a highly successful interior decoration business, Sybil Kennedy Interiors, which she ran until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2002. She was a long time benefactor of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Girls Club and Home and was often honored for her philanthropy and was widely traveled. She is survived by two sons, William Gary Geeslin and his wife Linda of Loganville, GA and Charles Reuben Geeslin and his wife Tuk of Singapore; one daughter, Cathy Millspaugh and her husband Steve of Roswell, GA; two sisters, Dot Butcher and her husband George of Donalsonville, GA and Maxine Neely of Cape Maine, NJ. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Susie Brown Burke; her husbands,R.G. Geeslin and Leland Kennedy; and one brother Charles Burke. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
