DOUGLAS SHATTLES

We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Loren Douglas "Doug" Shattles, Sr., age 66, of Iron City, GA who passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Shattles will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 4:00 PM at Hammock Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Dr. Gary Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Lynn Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, November 5 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Shattles was born in Shellman, GA on February 14, 1943 to the late Clarence Eugene and Ida Bell Banks Shattles. He served his country in the United States Army and was a truck driver. Mr. Shattles was a member of Hammock Springs Freewill Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn Shattles of Iron City, GA; a daughter, Lisa S. Dukes and her husband Robert of Donalsonville, GA; four sons, Warren Douglas "Pete" Shattles and his fiancee Joanne McCants of Columbus, GA, Loren Douglas Shattles, Jr. and his wife Missy of Donalsonville, GA, David Loren Shattles and his wife Amanda of Donalsonville, GA, and Paul Eugene Shattles of Iron City, GA; ten grandchildren, Andy Dukes and his wife Hannah, Aaron Dukes, Sam Shattles, Nick Shattles, Logan Shattles, Jake Shattles, Noah Shattles, Cody Shattles, Mindy Shattles, and Danielle Dionne. He is also survived by four sisters, Martha Jean Cross and her husband Charlie B. of Bainbridge, GA, Doris Griffin and her husband Don of Iron City, GA, Dorothy Sellars and her husband Randall of Climax, GA, and Kathy Jenkins and her husband Danny of Donalsonville, GA; as well as, five brothers, Tommy Shattles and his wife Arlene of Iron City, GA, Charles Shattles and his wife Joyce of Donalsonville, GA, Wayne Shattles of Iron City, GA, Floyd Shattles and his wife Cheryl of Cairo, GA, and Jeffie Shattles and his wife Nancy of Donalsonville, GA.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Eugene and Ida Bell Banks Shattles. Active casketbearers will be Kevin Lewis, Mark Hawkins, Brad Clarke, Tracey Scarborough, Ricky Alday, and Mike Casey. The men of the church will serve as honorary casketbearers.
