Edward A. “Ed” Pumphrey III, age 75, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 18, 2017 at Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Pumphrey will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Garth Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery with Johnny McMullen, Rob Blackburn, David Fain, Billy Fain, Danny Nunnery, and Steve Brock serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, Nov. 20, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Pumphrey was born in Elgin, Texas on Nov. 17, 1942 to Edward A. Pumphrey, Jr. and Mary Jane Prince Pumphrey. He received his Masters Degree in Engineering from Clemson University and worked for a number of years in management with Georgia-Pacific Paper Corporation before his retirement in 2006. During his time at GP, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Pursuit of Corporation Objectives Georgia Pacific Corp. (1991) as well as being appointed to the Governor’s Special Advisory Committee on the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa and Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin Compacts (appointed by Gov. Roy Barnes in 2001). Mr. Pumphrey was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Teresa Pumphrey of Donalsonville, GA; his children, Ed Pumphrey and his wife Kara of Charleston, SC, Marcie Aldridge and her husband Mike of McComb, MS, Charles Pumphrey and his fiancée Stefanie Roux of New Orleans, LA, and Chrystal Smith and her husband Koby of Donalsonville, GA; his sister, Sheryl Cannington and her husband Royce of Iron City, GA; and his brother, Mike and his wife Pat of Donalsonville, GA. Mr. Pumphrey is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ashton Chisholm (Carey), Walt Aldridge, Mary Jane Aldridge, Spenser Pumphrey, Shanna Pumphrey, Caleb Smith (Elizabeth), and Gracie Smith; as well as one great grandchild, Waylon Chisholm and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Pumphrey was preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. Pumphrey, Jr. and Mary Jane Prince Pumphrey, and his brother, John Pumphrey.
