We regret to announce the passing of Dr. Ronald E. Harrell, age 73, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services for Dr. Harrell will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their residence at 5341 Harrell Moye Road, Donalsonville, GA from 6:00-7:30 PM on Sunday evening, October 11, 2009. Dr. Harrell was born in Donalsonville, GA on December 21, 1935 to the late Douglas and Bernice Middleton Harrell. He graduated from Seminole County High School after which he attended Emory University School of Dentistry. He graduated from Emory in 1959, at which time he returned to Donalsonville to begin his dental practice. While at Emory, he was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Scholastic Honorary Society. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Southwestern District Dental Society, the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice, the American Association of Dental Examiners and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Harrell served five years as a member of the Georgia Board of Dentistry, the state regulatory agency for the profession. He was awarded an Honorable Fellowship by the Georgia Dental Association in 1976. Dr. Harrell was president of the board during 1977 and 1978. He was elected President of the Georgia Dental Association in 1982. Dr. Harrell was in practice for 49 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sissy Harrell of Donalsonville, GA; two daughters, Virginia Hatch and her husband Glen of Austin, TX and Marilyn Notte of Dunwoody, GA; six grandchildren, Lizzy, Harry, and Paul Hatch and Sam, Will, and George Notte; an aunt, Lucille Harrell White of Blakely,GA; one brother-in-law, Buddy Stapleton and his wife Joyce of Dothan, AL and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kiefner of Dothan, AL. Numerous cousins and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Bernice Middleton Harrell. Active casketbearers will be Brian Harrell, Bob Youmans, Gene Drake, Carey Horne, Chip Stewart, and Kevin Lewis. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
