We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Mainous Whittaker, age 74, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Whittaker will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 10:00 AM at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with interment to follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Tim Bell officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, September 1, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Whittaker was born in Donalsonville, GA on September 5, 1934 to the late E.D. Whittaker and Valeta Faircloth Whittaker. He was a member of the Donalsonville Church of Christ, the Donalsonville Country Club, and organized the Jaycees organization in Donalsonville. He owned and operated Whittaker Insurance Agency from 1973 until 1991. Mr. Whittaker had served as the Seminole County Magistrate Judge since 2003. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Amelia Brookins Whittaker of Donalsonville, GA; his mother, Valeta Faircloth Whittaker of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Dawn Dallas and her husband Andy of Dothan, AL; three sons, Greg Whittaker and his wife Shawn of Donalsonville, GA, Howard Whittaker and his wife Sharon of Dothan, AL, and Dave Whittaker and his wife Aimee of Amarillo, TX; a brother, E.J. Whittaker and his wife Louise of Dothan, AL; and a sister, Shelvia Jean Payne and her husband Roy of Liberty, NC. Mr. Whittaker is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Leslie Dallas, Nick Dallas, Camille Whittaker, Zane Whittaker, Gracie Whittaker, Spence Whittaker, and Avery Whittaker. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, E.D. Whittaker; a brother, Elliott Whittaker, Jr., and a sister, Rochelle Moore. Active casketbearers will be Ted Newberry, Craig Pierce,E.C. Bridges, Craig Earnest, Alex Jernigan, and Ed King. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice 432 East Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39845. The family is gathering at the home of Greg and Shawn Whittaker. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
