James Harold Johnson, age 79, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Monday morning, February 27, 2017 at the home of his daughter in Tallahassee, FL. Graveside services for Mr. Johnson will be held on Friday morning, March 3, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Michael Wingertsahn officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service. Visitation will be held on Friday morning immediately prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd Tallahassee, FL 32308 or to the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Johnson was born in Donalsonville, Ga on July 7, 1937 to James Alva Johnson and Essie Lee Moss Johnson. He graduated from Seminole County High School and attended ABAC and Mercer University. He served some time in the United States Army and the Air National Guard. Mr. Johnson was a great entrepreneur, not afraid of hard working and “stepping out on a limb”. He worked in accounting with Colonial Baking Company, Great Southern Paper Company/Georgia Pacific, and Burke, Burke, Worsham, and Harrell. He was well known in Donalsonville for the original Quik and Handy and Mr. Harold’s restaurants, as well as owning a fabric store. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Sheri Gerety (Brian) of Tallahassee, FL, Rodney Johnson (Amy Fox) of Tallahassee, FL, Ryan Johnson (Darcie) of St. cloud, FL, and Pamela Johnson-Spurlock (Patrick) of Bellows Falls, VT; his sister, Katie Tedder of Donalsonville, GA; and his grandchildren, Reagan Gerety, Mary Cailan Gerety, Ashlan Gerety, Luke Gerety, Nolan Johnson, Parker Johnson, Phineas Tillman, Helen Spurlock, and Madeleine Spurlock. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, James Alva Johnson and Essie Lee Moss Johnson.
