We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Christine Thursby King, age 72, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009. Memorial services for Mrs. King will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Walden and Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Mrs.King was born in Donalsonville, GA on January 5, 1937 to the late Alvis L. and Annie Pearl Whittaker Thursby. She graduated from Seminole County High School as the Valedictorian of her class. While working full time, she managed to put herself through college and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Laverne College. Mrs. King worked for a number of years at Jeffords Insurance Agency before moving to Portugal with her husband who was in the U.S. Navy. At that time, she began working with the Civil Service. She retired from the Civil Service and was now enjoying living on the family farm and caring for it and her animals along side her husband, Allen. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. King always looked forward to the summer months when her granddaughter, Skylar, would come and spend a great deal of time with her. She had been an active member of the Eastern Star while living in Pensacola, FL. Mrs. King spent a great deal of time in Louisiana, helping care for her granddaughter, and while there she spent time in the Kehoe-France School reading to the children. They all loved her and affectionately nicknamed her “”Mamabear”. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 50 years, Allen King of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Teresa King Dillon and her husband Paul of Covington, LA; a granddaughter, Skylar Dillon of Covington, LA; a sister, Smithie Smith of Slocomb, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
