Ruby Jewel Whitaker

Ruby Jewel Smith Whitaker, age 87, of Donalsonville, GA passed away July 23, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM. A private interment will be held later at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Mrs. Whitaker was born in Abbeville, AL on October 25, 1928 to Robert M. Smith and Emmie Faison Smith. She worked as a seamstress for Dickies for 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Donalsonville. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, James Robert Whitaker and his wife Alice of Donalsonville, GA, Harry Whitaker and his wife Linda of Fayetteville, GA, Philip Whitaker and his wife Darlene of Donalsonville, GA; her daughters, Frances North and her husband Charles of Donalsonville, GA and Becky Breckenridge of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Whitaker of Calhoun, GA; and her brothers, Gary Smith and his wife Sharon of Thomasville, GA and Willoughby “Buddy” Smith of Dothan, AL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one on the way, and two great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. Smith and Emmie Faison Smith; her husband, James Otis Whitaker; a son, Raymond Whitaker; as well as her siblings, Pete Smith, Jimmy Smith, Margaret Roberts and Emma Jean McLendon.
