We regret to announce the passing of Mr. John H. Hines, age 81, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Mr. Hines was born in Dade City, FL on June 10, 1927 to the late John H. Hines, Sr. and Olga Funderburke Hines. He graduated in 1945 from Jakin High School. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Hines was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, and worked at the post office in Donalsonville, GA for 33 years. He was serving as Post Master when he retired. After retirement, he worked with Evans-Skipper Funeral Home for a number of years. Mr. Hines was sworn in as Deputy Coroner on April 5, 1991 and served until April 13, 1999, at which time he took the oath as coroner to finish out Garland Skipper’s term following his death. He then ran for reelection and served as Coroner of Seminole County until Dec. 31, 2004. As long as his health allowed, Mr. Hines enjoyed fishing. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Elaine Hines of Savannah, GA and one son, Edwin Hines and his wife Shelly of Donalsonville, GA; and 3 grandchildren, Justin, Jarrid, and John Ross Hines. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Hines, Sr. and Olga Funderburke Hines Smart; his step-father, Dr. Edwin Cotton Smart; and his wife, Delores G. Hines. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
