Franklin Sinclair Shingler, III, age 76, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Sunday morning, February 28, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Shingler will be held on Tuesday morning, March 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. Garth Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery with Billy Shingler, Jim Shingler, Lance Roland, Cleve Roland, Tim Sheffield, Guy Conner, Marshall Willis, and Matt Willis serving as active casketbearers; however, the services will conclude in the church. Members of the Donalsonville Lions Club will serve as honorary casketbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church at 10:00 AM. Mr. Shingler was born in Donalsonville , GA on August 3, 1939 to Franklin Sinclair Shingler, Jr. and Jenny Williams Shingler. He served his country in the United States Army before attending Mercer Law School from which he graduated. He was self-employed as an appraiser and tax preparer, as well as engaging in beekeeping. Mr. Shingler was an active member of the Donalsonville Lions Club of which he was a past president and was a past District Governor for the GA Lion’s Clubs. He had served as a past president of the Donalsonville Seminole County Chamber of Commerce; he was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and was Secretary of the Church Council. Mr. Shingler was also a member of the Methodist Men and taught Sunday School for many years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Evelyn Bean Shingler of Donalsonville, GA; his daughter, Rebecca Alpaugh of Athens, GA and his sister, Ginger Conner and her husband Gerald of Fulton, MS. Mr. Shingler is also survived by his granddaughters, Jenny Alpaugh and Julie Alpaugh both of Athens, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Shingler was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Sinclair Shingler, Jr. and Jenny Williams Shingler; a sister, Elizabeth Roland; and an infant son, Stephen Shingler.
