FRANCES MATTHEWS

We regret to announce the passing of Frances Matthews, age 95, of Colquitt, GA. Mrs. Matthews passed away Monday afternoon, December 7, 2015 at her residence. A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Seminole Shores Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kim Whitehead officiating. Ms. Matthews was born in Bainbridge, GA on August 16, 1920 to Sam Richards and Bertie Beasley Richards. She was an event planner with the Junior League of Atlanta for many years. Ms. Matthews was a professional organizer and a member of the National Organization for Women, of which she was an officer. She was also of the Methodist faith. She leaves to cherish her memory, two nieces, Dale Murphy of Colquitt, GA and Kathy Waddell and her husband Johnny of Bainbridge, GA; several other nieces and nephews; and a sister, Margo Heard and her husband Wallace of Panama City, FL. Ms. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Richards and Bertie Beasley Richards; her husbands, John Phillip Cook, Paul Jones, and Orin "Matt" Matthews; as well as a sister, Nelle Yeats.
