Joseph Michael “Sambo” Alday, age 66, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at Donalsonville Hospital Emergency Room. Funeral services for Mr. Alday will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Donalsonville Church of God with Rev. Slade Alday and Rev. Phillip Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Wendell Cross, Wilton Albritton, Garlin Evans, Kenny King, Ronnie Shiver, Daniel Pearce, Kyle Thomas, and John Gray serving as active casketbearers and Rev. Herman Enfinger speaking. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, Sept. 3, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA. Mr. Alday was born in Donalsonville, GA on March 7, 1949 to Paul Alday and Louise Elizabeth Ledford Alday. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School and retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked for many years as a paper maker. Mr. Alday was a member of the United Paper Workers International Union, a former PeeWee football coach in Seminole County, and a former President of the band boosters in Miller County. He attended Donalsonville Church of God and loved being with children and helping to care for them. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Shirley Smith Alday of Donalsonville, GA; three sons, Rev. Slade Alday(Danielle), Mitch Alday(Heather Lang), and Mikey Alday(Natalie) all of Bainbridge, GA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Lillian Smith of Donalsonville, GA; a brother, Andy Alday(Loretta) of Donalsonville, GA; a brother-in-law, Ricky Smith(Karen) of Iron City, GA; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Alday of Donalsonville, GA. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Isabella Hope Alday and Josephine Michelle Alday; two godchildren, Skyler Odom and Andlee Odom; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Alday was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise Alday and two brothers, Johnny Stione Alday and Bobby Alday.
