We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Robert Earl Mathis, Sr., age 62, of Eldorendo, GA who passed away on Tuesday morning, September 2, 2008 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Slade Alday, Rev. James Scarborough and Rev. Herman Enfinger officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City, GA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Mathis was born in Miller County, GA on September 19, 1945 to the late George W. and Liza Merritt Mathis. He served his country in the US Army. Mr. Mathis owned and operated Robert Mathis Diesel Service in Iron City, GA for approximately 14 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Betty Sue Powell Mathis of Eldorendo, GA; 2 sons, Robert E. Mathis, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Gainesville, GA and Bob Floyd of Pennsylvania; 1 daughter, Lisa Hope Burkett and her husband Scotty of Eldorendo, GA; 6 brothers, Vernon Mathis of Bainbridge, GA, George Mathis of Apalachicola, FL, Raymond Mathis of East Point, FL; Buddy Mathis, Douglas Mathis and Thomas Harlow all of Malone, FL; 5 sisters, Dorothy Ingram of Donalsonville, GA, Wylene Warren of Colquitt, GA; Nadene Jones of East Point, FL; Lorene Brown of Donalsonville, GA and Eloise Brown of St. Augustine, FL. He was also survived by 4 grandchildren Jenna Mathis, Matt Burkett, Rebecca Floyd, and Bobby Floyd and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Liza Merritt Mathis and 2 brothers, James Mathis and Melton Mathis. Casketbearers will be Robert Bullock, Dave Preston, Loren Shattles, Brad Clarke, Bobby Pope and David Spooner. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Corinth Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 447, Iron City, GA 39859. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
