We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Bill Shingler, age 61, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Entombment will follow at the family mausoleum in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Shingler was born on October 4, 1946 to the late Morrison P. and Marveen Hall Shingler. He graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1964 and went on to attend Middle Georgia College. He then attended the University of Georgia, where he received a Masters Degree in Public Administration. In 1983, he graduated from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law in Atlanta, GA, passed his bar exam in 1985, and began his private practice in Donalsonville. He had worked his way through law school as a charter pilot. Mr. Shingler was the first In School Suspension Officer for the Seminole County School System. He was a member of the Pataula Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Shingler served as the Municipal Court Judge for Donalsonville and was the attorney for the Iron City and Jakin City Councils. He was a member of the Airport Authority, the Quiet Birdmen Association, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Mr. Shingler was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dell Shingler of Donalsonville; two sons, Billy Shingler and Jim Shingler and his fiancee Shay Stanley of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Leah Banford and her husband Jeff of Crested Butte, CO; a brother, Morrison P. Shingler and his wife Angie of Perry, FL; a sister, Caroline Kicklighter and her husband Charlie of Macon, GA;adopted mother Louise Lee of Donalsonville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morrison P. and Marveen Hall Shingler and one sister, Suzanne Shingler Fowler. Active casketbearers will be Bert Thomas, Willie Williams, Ed Rogers, Ronnie Joe Lane, Randy Downing, Patch Price, Gerald Lane, and David Fain. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the area law enforcement departments, the Pataula Bar Association, the Seminole County Commissioners, Decatur County Attorneys , and the Quiet Birdmen Association. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church Parsonage Yard Fund PO Box 305 Donalsonville, GA 39845.
