HUBERT MELVIN WILLIAMS

Hubert Melvin Williams, age 84, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Sunday morning, June 8, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Tommy Dobbins and Rev. Michael Wingertsahn officiating. Interment will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Miller County, GA with Richard Spooner, Mills Brock, Donald Norris, Lonnie Alday, Adam Alday, and David Fain serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church Merry Makers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, June 11, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Williams was born in Donalsonville, GA on October 1, 1929 to James D. and Lena Williams. He lived in Donalsonville the majority of his life. He graduated from Miller County High School in 1946 where he served as treasurer of his junior class and president of his senior class. He attended Florida State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. He also obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia State University. After serving two years in the United States Army, he returned to Atlanta, Georgia and worked in the banking profession for three years. He later served as a high school teacher in Florida for four years. In 1959, Mr. Williams entered the public accounting profession. In 1985, he joined Mauldin and Jenkins where he served as Financial Institution Specialist Consultant until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants in which he held lifetime memberships in both organizations. Mr. Williams was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville where he served as Church Financial Analyst, Church Organist, and as accompanist for the mature adults choir. His most recent accomplishment had been completing a computer course at Bainbridge State College within the past month. He leaves to cherish his memory, his nieces, Charlotte Alday and her husband Donnie of Blakely, GA, Donna Alday of Destin, FL, Caroline Jones and her husband Bill of Tallahassee, FL, Lucy Wells and her husband Appie of Orlando, FL, Deborah Williams of Eldorendo, GA, Patricia McLeod and her husband Joel of Dothan, AL, and Betty Norris of Donalsonville, GA; his nephews, Steve Williams and his wife Carol of Iron City, GA, Bob Williams and his wife Pat of Donalsonville, GA, Richard Williams and his wife Sheila of Donalsonville, GA, Robert Williams and his wife Theresa of Tallahassee, FL, and Mike Williams of Raleigh, NC. Mr. Williams is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Lena Williams; five brothers, Calvin Williams, Robert Williams, Leon Williams, Lester Williams, and Archie Williams; as well as one nephew, Ron Williams.
