JACK ALTON SHAMBLIN

November 19, 1927 — May 19, 2014

Jack Alton Shamblin, age 86, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Funeral services for Mr. Shamblin will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church Donalsonville with Rev. Tommy Dobbins and Rev. Michael Wingertsahn officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Lewis Godby, Scott Mitchell, Bob Dutton, Steve Bailey, Emory Courson, Robin Blackburn, Mitch Royals, and Marshall Williams serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Don Swanner, Dr. C.O. Walker, members of the Whit Aikin Sunday School Class, and members of the retired Georgia Pacific Workers Group. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:30 AM at the church. Mr. Shamblin was born in Calhoun, TN on November 19, 1927 to Nathaniel Thomas Shamblin and Alice Davis Shamblin. He served his country in the United States Army as a member of Company “B” 180th Infantry and 45th Infantry Division, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1951-1952. His team was known as the 101 Airbourne Thunderbirds. Mr. Shamblin worked as a mechanic with Georgia Pacific for many years before his retirement. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Donalsonville where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Seminole County Young Farmers. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ruth Shamblin of Donalsonville, GA; two sons, Terry Shamblin and his wife Becky of Donalsonville, GA and Tim Shamblin and his wife Rhonda of Donalsonville, GA; two brothers, Thomas D. Shamblin and his wife Frances of Ooltewah, TN and George L. Shamblin and his wife Becky of Calhoun, TN. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Mindy Shamblin and Tyler Shamblin as well as several nieces and nephews.
