NITA MARTIN HARRELL

April 5, 1903 — November 30, 2005

We regret to announce the passing of Nita Martin Harrell, age 102, of Donalsonville who passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, at 3:30 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Morgan Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 1, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. You may share your thoughts with the family by visiting our website at www.evansskipperfh.com. Mrs. Harrell was born in Decatur County on April 5, 1903 to the late Alexander John and Florence Perilee Brinson Martin. She was married to Leo Jackson Harrell who preceded her in death in 1955. Mrs. Harrell was educated at the local Ward School and graduated from high school in Brinson. After high school, she attended the University of Georgia, Georgia State Women's College (VSU) and Florida State College for Women (FSU) in the summers while teaching school for a number of years, mostly in Climax. She had been active in the First Presbyterian Church of Donalsonville since 1949. Mrs. Harrell taught Sunday School and served as the Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in the Women of the Church, and she was the first woman locally to be elected a deacon. She was granted emeritus status later. She retired as a housemother at VSU in 1968, and she became active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Garden Club, and served on the Southwest Georgia Regional Library Board. She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Nickoley and Martha and Ashley Register, Sr. all of Donalsonville; daughter-in-law Rachel Harrell of LaGrange, GA; six grandchildren Shari Severino (Russ) of Chesapeake, VA; Ross Nickoley (Lynn) of Danville, VA; Deborah McReynolds (Jim) of Washington, D.C. ; Dr. Ashley Register, Jr. (Laura) of Cairo,GA; Mark Register (Andrea) of Birmingham, AL; and Brinson Register (Libby) of Donalsonville, GA. Fourteen great-grandchildren, John and Kristin Severino; Amanda and Frank Nickoley; Rebecca and Meghan McReynolds; Ellen, Anna and Prescott Register; Seth and Elena Register; Charles, Andrew and Annie Register also survive. Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Leo Jackson Harrell, Jr. in 2000 and a son- in- law, Paul Nickoley in 1991. Pallbearers will be Brinson Register, Mark Register, Ashley Register, Jr., Ross Nickoley, John Severino, and Benjamin (Toy) Martin. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1026, Donalsonville, GA 39845.
