We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Martha Ann Goodwin Hastey, age 88, of Donalsonville, GA. Mrs. Hastey passed away Monday evening, Nov. 18, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Funeral services for Mrs. Hastey will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Donalsonville with Rev. Richard Trawick and Rev. Jimmy Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mrs. Hastey was born in Donalsonville, GA on June 2, 1925, to Joel Homer Goodwin and Annie Lee Tyler Goodwin. She was the sister of Irene, Ellen, Mary, Emily, and Joel Homer Goodwin, Jr. Mrs. Hastey was educated in the Seminole County School System, where she played on the basketball team and developed a life-long appreciation for sports. She was nurtured in her youth at the First Presbyterian Church. In June, 1946, she married Luther Hastey and both became active members of the First Baptist Church. Later, when her husband was ordained, they served numerous churches throughout the area, in particular, many years at the Iron City Baptist Church. For many years, Mrs. Martha Ann worked as an executive assistant to the Seminole County School Superintendent, the late N.P. Malcom and later as an assistant to a local attorney, the late Julian Webb. Together, she and Luther raised two sons, and she simply adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She remained close to her sisters throughout her life. Her joy in life emanated from her faith, family, and friends. To those who knew and loved her, she made a difference and will be deeply missed. Mrs. Martha Ann leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rev. Luther Hastey of Donalsonville, GA; two sisters, Mary Goodwin and Emily Miller, both of Donalsonville ,GA; two sons, Joe Hastey and his wife Carol of Denver, CO and Dr. Charles Hastey of Montgomery, AL; her grandchildren, Todd Hastey and his wife Kerry of Knoxville, TN; Scott Hastey and his wife Janet of Atlanta, GA; Jonathan Hastey and his wife Allison of Denver, CO; Chase Hastey and Lee Hastey Goodwyn and her husband Will all of Montgomery, AL, and Laura Hastey of Tuscaloosa, AL. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Sarah Kate Hastey of Knoxville, TN, Will and Ellie Hastey of Atlanta, GA, and Bibb Goodwyn of Montgomery, AL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
