John Terrell Hanna, 83, died peacefully, October 17, 2013. John was born on November 7, 1929 to Inez and J.H. Hanna who preceded him in death. A life-long resident of Seminole County, he attended school in Donalsonville until he left for enrollment in the the Georgia Military Academy in his middle teens. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Business. At UGA he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and ROTC. Upon graduation, he served his country in the Korean War and returned home to marry Mary Elizabeth (M.E.) Mosely of Jakin, who preceded him in death in 1993. He joined partnership with his father at Donalsonville Grain and Elevator then later became manager of The Gold Kist division located in Donalsonville. John served on the board of Commercial State Bank from 1967 until 2012. He held the position of President of CSB from 1987-1994. John was active in many committees and organizations in Donalsonville. A founding member of the Seminole Boat Club and Donalsonville Country Club, he was an active member of the Donalsonville Lions Club, American Cancer Society, Friendship Cemetery to name a few. He was presently serving with his life long friend, J.B. Clarke, on the committee researching the history of downtown Donalsonville. The First Presbyterian Church in Donalsonville was his second home where he served as a past Elder and taught Sunday School. He could be found on the front pew during each service always enjoying the children. John will be remembered for the love of his family, church, and community, however, so many will remember him for his love of the outdoors. We all pray that he finds the most wonderful fishing hole and deer stand now that his life on earth has passed. He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Deanne Hanna, grandsons, John and Hudson Hanna. A daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Tony Walden, granddaughter Hanna and Brent Mitchell, great grandchildren, Walden and Reese Mitchell; sisters, Peggy Hanna and Ruth Claire Looney; brother and sister-in-law, John and Ann Mosely; nephews, Ken Looney, Jake, Matt, and Ben Mosely; and a niece, Birkie Cvacho. Lastly, his dear friend, Lucy Thomas. The funeral for John Hanna will be held Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 2:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church with visitation from 1:30-2:00. Following the service, interment will be held at the Friendship Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lewis Carter, Brad Clarke, David Fain, Terry Shamblin, Bobby Sinquefield, John Emory Trawick, Joey Trice, and Greg Whittaker.
