We regret to announce the passing of Hugh Emmett Carr, age 78, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Carr will be held Friday, December 14, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kirk Loyless and Dr. Glenn Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held Friday, December 14, one hour before the service at Friendship United Methodist Church. Mr. Carr was born in Henry County, AL on January 16, 1929 to the late William Homer and Roberta Strickland Carr. He served for 1 year in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Reserves for 19 years. He married Ouida Ruth Wiley in 1950 and began his agriculture career. He retired from farming in 1995, after 45 years of raising crops, hogs, and cattle. Mr. Carr was very active in agricultural organizations. Mr. Carr had been a member of the National Cattle Association, President of the Seminole County Cattlemen's Association, member of the Santa Gertrudis Breeders International, member of the Georgia, Florida, and Alabama Santa Gertrudis Association, member of the board of directors of the Georgia Santa Gertrudis Association, and participated in showing Santa Gertrudis cattle at fairs and festivals in Georgia and surrounding states. He was voted the 1969 Soil Conservation Man of the Year. Mr. Carr was a member of the Donalsonville Lions Club, where he had served as President and on the board of directors. He was a Farm Bureau board member for 42 years, having held the position of President and Vice-President of that organization. Mr. Carr had served on the Seminole and Miller County Sale Committee for the youth steer and hog shows, as well as serving on the Advisory Committee for the Vocational Agriculture Department at Seminole County High School. He was a past member of the Swine Producers Association, a member of the Seminole County Young Farmers Association, and a past director of the Dry Creek Watershed Program. He had served as chairman of the Board of Directors at Gold Kist of Donalsonville, and in 1983, his family was chosen Farm Family of the Year. Mr. Carr was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, having served as past chairman of the Administrative Board, a youth Sunday School teacher, and lay leader. Mr. Carr had served as President of the Thomasville District United Methodist Mens Fellowship, past president of the local Methodist Mens Fellowship, and Sunday School Superintendent for 8 years. He served 3 years as the secretary and treasurer of the Bainbridge Sub-district United Methodist Men. Mr. Carr had been Chairman of the Lake Seminole Area Council of United Methodist Churches, and he was instrumental in initiating the Lake Seminole Ministry. He was a lay speaker, having spoken in United Methodist Churches throughout the South Georgia Conference. He was chosen Man of the Year for the Thomasville District United Methodist Men in 1976. He had held various positions on numerous committees at Friendship United Methodist Church, as well as being an assistant Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Grow Sunday School class. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years Ouida Carr; one son, Dr. Mike Carr and his wife Beverly all of Donalsonville; two daughters, Cindy Bowen and her husband Tim of Donalsonville and Angie Carr of Tifton, GA; five grandchildren, Michael Carr, Jennifer Carr, Ashley Carr, Dustin Bowen, and Savannah Bowen; four sisters, Mildred Holmes of Jacksonville, FL, Carolyn Brady of Cedar Springs, GA, Lou Pederson of Wilmar , MN. and Kay Moore of Madison, FL; and four brothers, Eugene Carr of Abbeville, AL, Wayne Carr of Donalsonville, GA, Joseph Carr of Griffin, GA, and Bobby Carr of Hampton, GA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maudrie Creel of Webb, AL and a brother, William Carr, Jr of Headland, AL, as well as his parents, William Homer and Roberta Strickland Carr. Pallbearers will be Stan Kennedy, Leon Holmes, Kenneth Carr, Butch Carr, Ronnie Skipper, Johnny Lisenby, Sammy Joe Baker and Dr. Max Easom. Honorary pallbearers will Farm Bureau Directors, Larry Hartzog John Hanna, Bob Fiveash, Chuck Cowart, J. B. Clarke, Bobby Sinquefield, LamarGoocher, Fred Brackin, Wilford Tyler, Jack Shamblin, Wallace Drake, Sinclair Shingler, Dr. Charles Walker, Rev. Charles Dennis, Neil Rumble, Dr. Calvin Arnold, Don Swanner, Foster Wurst and Bud Youmans
