We regret to announce the passing of William Eugene "Gene" Alday, age 73, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 26, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Meritt officiating. Interment will follow in the Allen Alday Family Cemetery on Highway 39 South in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 25, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Alday was born in Seminole County on March 21, 1934 to the late Thomas Allen and Lela Doretha McDaniel Alday. He was a farmer and served his country in the US Air Force. He was of the Baptist Faith, a member of American Legion Post 157 and Northwest Florida Syrupmakers Association. He is survived by his wife Cenette Alday of Chattahoochee, FL; two sons, Timothy Eugene "Buck" Alday and his fiancee Joy Layton and William Daniel Alday and his wife Sheila all of Donalsonville; two daughters, Debbie Merritt and her husband Edwin of Calvary, GA; Sherry Dianne Alday and Michael Meagher of Sycamore, FL; special friend, Leroy Barber of Donalsonville, GA; nine grandchildren, Robert Eugene Rentz, Leeann Cenette Chappell, Jessie Merritt, Josh Merritt, Brian Daniel Alday, Michael Moncrief, Michelle Trim and her husband Mike, Henry Williamson, and Casey McCalvin and her husband Marty; and four great grandchildren, Jonathan Wade Rentz, Erin June Alday, Brian Lyndon Alday, and Leah Reed McCalvin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Allen and Lela Doretha McDaniel Alday; a daughter, Amanda Nicole Alday; two granddaughters, Serrianne Cenette McKinley and Amy Lynn Alday; four brothers, Thomas Alday, Emmett Alday, Buford "Mutt" Alday, and Ralph Alday; and three sisters, Queen Ester Croom, Viola Brogdon, and Lottie Yates. Active pallbearers will be Dale "Bubby" Yates, Jr., Jeff Croom, Chuck Faircloth, Robin Faircloth, Calvin Atkinson, and Ricky Alday. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Brimlow and John Adams. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
