We regret to announce the passing of Doris Drake Owen, age 89, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away at Serenity Place in Dublin, GA on Friday Morning, November 4, 2011. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA. Mrs. Owen was born in Seminole County on November 24, 1921 to the late John Lee Drake, Sr. and Nellie Saunders Drake. She married her late husband Hudson Jackson Owen, Sr. in 1943. She attended school in Donalsonville and graduated from University of Georgia majoring in Home Economics; then she attended Valdosta State to add on her Education degree. She taught school in Seminole County schools for twenty years and retired in 1985. She was an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church since 1935, a member of the D.A.R., Donalsonville Woman’s Club, Addie Brigham Sunday School Class, Lucie VanLandinham Circle, and a member of numerous Bridge Clubs.. She is survived by one son Jack Owen and his wife Jenny of Dublin, GA and one daughter Carol Ann Lovett and her husband Tom of Newnan, GA; one brother, Wallace Drake and his wife Joanne of Donalsonville, GA; two sister-in-laws, Mildred Drake and Marie Drake both of Donalsonville, GA; grandchildren, Owen Roberts and his wife Amber, Josh Owen and his wife Jana, Joni Hamilton and her husband Stewart; great grandchildren, Austin Roberts, Kaitlyn Roberts, Jaley Owen, Jacey Owen, Anna-Hudson Hamilton, Chandler Kathleen Hamilton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lee Drake, Sr. and Nellie Saunders Drake; her husband, Hudson Jackson Owen, Sr.; two brothers, John Lee Drake, Jr. and Billy Gene Drake. Casketbearers will be John Drake, Joe Drake, Greg Drake, Jimmy Drake, Gene Drake, Chip Stewart and Bill Burke. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
