We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Lila Mae Spooner Youmans, age 92, of Iron City, GA who passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Dan Jessop officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Lila Mae Spooner Youmans was born to the late Susan Margaret Gainey Spooner and Joseph James Spooner on September 1, 1919. She was born in the same home where she lived until her death on Oct. 4, 2011. "Miss Lila" moved to Thomasville, GA as a young girl to live with her Uncle Jess Gainey and his family until she graduated from high school in 1936. She graduated from Young Harris College in 1938 and then Valdosta State University in 1940. In her early years, she worked in Washington, D.C. and Chicago for the War Relief Effort. She then joined Eastern Airlines in New York City and was in their second graduating class of stewardesses. After 3 years, she left Eastern Airlines to return to Seminole County to care for her mother. She taught school for 2 years and then married Bud Youmans in 1949 and had 5 children. In 1963,Lila returned to college at FSU and received a degree in Library Science. She established the first library at Seminole county Elementary School. She later became librarian at Seminole county Middle School and worked there until her retirement in the early 1980's. Mrs. Youmans is survived by her husband, Bud Youmans of Iron City, GA; sons, Gus Youmans and his wife Lisa of Hamilton, GA, Jody Youmans and his wife Teresa of Donalsonville, GA and Bob Youmans and his wife Mary of Iron City, GA; daughters, Susan Hodges and her husband Harris of Conyers, GA and Judy Trulock and her husband Mac of Donalsonville, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jess Hodges and his wife Lindsey of Walnut Grove, GA, Leah Johnson and her husband Philip of Newborn, GA, Daniel Hodges of Statesboro, GA, Laura Youmans of Tallahassee, FL, Leigh Youmans of Columbus, GA, Justin Trulock of Savannah, GA, Allison Trulock of Atlanta, GA, Nathan Youmans, Maggie Youmans of Donalsonville, GA, Wesley Youmans of Donalsonville, GA, William Youmans of Donalsonville, GA and Warren Youmans of Donalsonville, GA. She is also survived by her first cousins, Patricia and Ann Gainey as well and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph James Spooner and Susan Margaret Gainey Spooner. Casketbearers will be Jess Hodges, Daniel Hodges, Justin Trulock, Nathan Youmans, Wesley Youmans, William Youmans, Warren Youmans and Philip Johnson. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
