We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Cecil Lunsford, age 85, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in the Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Lunsford will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Dean M. Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Lunsford was born in Thomas County GA on February 25, 1926 to the late Joseph Robert and Rebecca Elizabeth Strickland Lunsford. He served his country in the US Army and worked as a bank executive at Farmers Bank in Pelham, GA; Merchants and Farmers Bank in Donalsonville, GA and Security Bank and Trust in Colquitt, GA. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in many clubs and organizations. In Donalsonville he was Deacon and Chairman of Board of Deacons of First Baptist Church; President and Board of Directors of Seminole County Chamber of Commerce; Secretary-Treasurer of Seminole County Development Authority, Program Chairman of Lions Club, Seminole County Finance Chairman of State YMCA of Georgia. In Pelham he was a Deacon of First Baptist Church, President of Jaycees (Jr. Chamber of Commerce), President of Civitan Club; Board of Director of Chamber of Commerce, Scoutmaster, Pack 53 Cub Scouts. In Colquitt he was on the Board of Directors, Colquitt-Miller County Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Weldon S. Lunsford of Donalsonville, GA; two sons, Joseph Harold Lunsford of Birmingham, AL and James Patrick Lunsford and his wife Rita of Suwanee, GA; one sister, Jeanitha Louise Weaver and her husband Rev. Dean Weaver of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Tiffany Marie Wasmer, James Patrick Lunsford, Jr., Joanna Claire Sammander, Kelly Michelle Phillips, Hayley Rebecca Lunsford and Julien Philip Lunsford; great-grandchildren, Audrey Grace Phillips, Taylor Ann Marie Wasmer, Joseph Landon Holcomb, Julian Phillips DeCastillo, Hannah Cecilia Lunsford, Adam Weldon Sammander and Lily Rae Lunsford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Robert and Rebecca Elizabeth Strickland Lunsford and one brother, Thomas Robert Lunsford. Active casketbeareres will be Lewis Godby, Steve Bailey, Jack Shamblin, Bob Dutton, Marshall Williams, Carl Lunsford, Steve Lunsford and Terry Shamblin. Honorary casketbearers will be Jack Williams, Jack Brannon, LaDon Swanner, Bill Fowler, Hubert Williams, Rev. Luther Hastey, Fred Brackin, Carlton Kelley, J. B. Clarke, and Luther Spooner and Al Hardy. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
