We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Vester McLendon, age 95, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at The Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA, after a long illness. He was born in Miller County. He lived his whole life in Miller County and the Donalsonville and Colquitt area, working mainly as a farmer. For the last two years, he lived in Monroe, GA at Great Oaks Gardens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Watson McLendon and Katie Bell McCorkle McLendon; his loving wife of more than fifty years, Eunice Drake McLendon; his sister Marie Hatcher, of Bainbridge, GA, and his brother, Leon McLendon, of Mayhaw. Mr. McLendon is survived by three daughters, Patrica Miller of Madison, GA, Peggy Shelnutt and her husband Jerry of Snellville, GA, and Dot McLendon of Windsor, CO. He has seven grandchildren, Mark Miller and his wife Sue Ellen of Hennessey, OK, Andrea Bradley and her husband Todd of Dalton, GA, Merrie Susan Barnett and her husband Greg of White, GA, Wayne Shelnutt and his wife Holly of Logenville, GA, Kerri Brown and her husband Greg of Grayson, GA, Felecia Bateman and her husband Ted of Chapel Hill, NC, Christi Sande and her husband Lars of Windsor, CO. He has twenty great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Miller, and Cassie Daniel of Hennessey, OK, Chris Daniel of Gainesville, GA, Anna and Becca Bradley of Dalton, GA, Miller, Mason, and Andy Barnett of White, GA, Payton and Dylan of Logenville, GA, Brett, Madison, Sean, and Katie Brown of Grayson, GA, Jenna and Britton Bateman of Chapel Hill, NC, and Madison, Bailey, and Lily Sande of Fort Collins and Windsor, CO,; two great-great-grandchildren, Layna and Layne Daniel of Hennessey, OK and Gainesville, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Jessie Mae McLendon Broxton and her husband Winson of Donalsonville, GA Visitation for Mr. McLendon will be held at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville from 1:00-3:00 PM on Monday, May 30, 2011 with the funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating. Graveside services will be held at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville. In case of inclement or extremely hot weather, graveside services will be conducted at the church.
