WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF MS. PAULA ODOM, AGE 82, OF DONALSONVILLE, GA WHO PASSED AWAY FRIDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 27, 2007 AT THE DONALSONVILLE HOSPITAL. GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MS. ODOM WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 29, 2007 AT 3:00PM AT FRIENDSHIP CEMETERY WITH DR. RON MCCASKILL OFFICIATING. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW THE SERVICE. VISITATION WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2007 FROM 6:00-7:00PM AT THE CHAPEL OF EVANS-SKIPPER FUNERAL HOME. SHE BEGAN HER TEACHING CAREER AS A PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND GIRLS' BASKETBALL COACH AT MALONE HIGH SCHOOL IN MALONE, FL. IN 1956 SHE MOVED TO IMMOKALEE, FL, WHERE SHE TAUGHT PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND BIOLOGY AND COACHED THE GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM FOR MANY YEARS. SHE RETIRED FROM TEACHING IN 1988 AND RETURNED TO DONALSONVILLE, GA. WHILE IN IMMOKALEE, SHE ATTENDED THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. IN 2003, A SCHOLARSHIP WAS SET UP BY THE MERCEDES AND JACINTO SANCHEZ FAMILY IN HER HONOR TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS OF HISPANIC HERITAGE TO FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION, ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS, AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS. MS. ODOM IS SURVIVED BY A NIECE, CAROL JONES CULVERSON OF DONALSONVILLE, GA; TWO NEPHEWS, WILLIAM E. "BUBBA" JONES, JR. AND HIS WIFE JOYE OF FOWLSTOWN, GA AND RAYMOND GLENN JONES AND HIS WIFE BRENDA OF DONALSONVILLE, GA, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS COUSINS. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS AND A SISTER, WILMA ODOM JONES.
