We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Bennie Hilton Lane, age 90, of Iron City, GA who passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Calhoun Memorial Hospital in Arlington, GA. Funeral services for Mr. Lane will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Walden officiating. Interment will be held at Corinth Cemetery in Iron City, GA. Visitation will be held March 9, 2011, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Mr. Lane was born in Decatur County, GA on May 17, 1920 to the late Willie Hamer and Ellen Cross Lane. He worked in the Forestry Unit with Wiregrass Timber Company. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Roger Lane and his wife Nell; Larry Lane and his wife Donna; both of Iron City, GA; Stanley Lane of Dothan AL; two daughters, Brenda Cowart and her husband Wayne of Iron City, GA; Theresa Alexander and her husband Mark of Headland, AL; one brother, Atwood Lane of Cairo, GA; two sisters, Lucy Hornsby of Colquitt, GA and Martha Ann McDaniel of Iron City, GA; sister-in-law Nellie Lane of Iron City, GA. He is aso survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Hamer and Ellen Cross Lane; his wife, Ruth Williams Lane; two daughters, Tonya Maude Lane and Joy Lane Dancer and one son, Bennie Hilton Lane, Jr.; one sister, Jewell Powell and two brothers, Hughie Carlton “Jack” Lane,Myron Lane and a grandson, Clifton Lane Dancer. Casketbearers will be Jeff Dancer, Brad Dancer, Josh Cowart, Hilton Lane, Chuck Cutchen, Brian Wells and Layton Cowart. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
