We regret to announce the passing of Charles Wesley Lewis, age 83, of Donalsonville, GA formerly of Gordon, AL who passed away January 9, 2011 in Donalsonville, GA. Religious services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM CST at First Baptist Church in Gordon, AL with Rev. Garner Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Pansey, AL. Visitation will be held Monday, January 10, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 EST at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA. Another visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM CST at First Baptist Church in Gordon, AL. Mr. Lewis was born on November 22, 1927 to George Anthony and Vicey Tap Cook Lewis. He served his country in the United States Army, Air Force and National Guard and worked for the City of Gordon, AL in the maintenance department. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gordon, AL and American Legion Post No. 55 in Ashford, AL. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Wanda Witter and her husband Wally of Donalsonville GA; four sons, Glenn Lewis and his wife Annette of Gordon, AL; George Lewis and his wife Debbie of Mobile AL; Samuel Lewis of Gordon, AL; Charles Gregory Lindsey and his wife Nancy of Lynn Haven, FL and and 2 step daughters; 2 step-sons. He was also survived by 2 nieces and 1 nephew as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Anthony and Vicey Tap Cook Lewis; his wife, Myrtle Irene Lewis and 5 sisters. Casketbearers will be Jacob Lewis, John Michael Lewis, William Edward Sketoe, Jr., Justin Lewis, Colby Sketoe, Robert Allen Jones and Bubba Vann. Honorary pallbearers will be Calob Sketoe, Ashley Peters and Tyler Peters. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Hospice, 432 East Shotwell St. Bainbridge, GA 39817. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
